Thieves steal 60 wedding dresses from Avondale Heights bridal shop
A BRIDAL shop has been left about $30,000 out-of-pocket after thieves broke in and stole 60 dresses from the Avondale Heights store on Friday night.
Addison Rose by my deb dress on Military Rd was broken into between 8pm on Friday, June 26, and 9.30am on Saturday, June 27.
Manager Jessica, who did not want her last name published, said about 20 of the stolen dresses were ordered specifically for brides-to-be and the remainder of the stolen dresses were off-the-rack.
“We reopened today with the stock that we’ve got and our suppliers have tried to get dresses that have been taken (that were custom-made),” she said.
“Our main concern is making the customers happy. We’re now paying for their dresses.
“I don’t think we’re going to find the dresses.”
Jessica said it was an awful situation given they had discovered their insurance company did not cover theft.
The online business opened its Avondale Heights store front in October.
“It took several years to save enough money to try and buy these dresses and this has happened,” she said.
“We don’t understand why someone would want to come in and do this.
“The dresses are $500 each and it’s about $30,000.”
Constable Matt Steel, of Moonee Valley’s Crime Investigation Unit, said it was believed the thieves broke in by smashing a brick through a back window and gaining access via a laneway.Read more here:evening gowns
