Fashion Week, Food and Wine festival wrap up in Palm Desert
After nine days of fashion, including canine couture and "Project Runway" shows, Fashion Week El Paseo wrapped up Sunday with a trunk show showcasing the designs of New York-based designer CD Greene, who was on site, offering styling advice to those wishing to purchase from the collection or set up a private appointment.
The designs ranged from daring sequined mini dresses which would look perfectly at home on a Grammy’s red carpet to timelessly elegant gowns which could be worn to a White House State Dinner.
Heavily-jeweled jewel-toned dresses hung next to black and navy gowns covered with pearls and mesh panels. One design in particular, a light pink number with a pearl collar and attached cape, looked like it could have been designed for former first lady Jackie Kennedy herself.
The designer estimated 90 percent of each collection he created was black or navy, but said he did like to play with color, especially jewel tones.
Greene said while he does sell samples, the overwhelming majority of his designs were made-to-order couture pieces.
“I want women to know we can address any issue they need a beautiful dress for, whether it’s the color or the theme of the event,” he said. “A lot of women don’t want to feel like they try too hard. They want to slip it on and feel gorgeous.”
Greene said many of his designs were inspired by the glamor of Old Hollywood and movies from the 1930s and 1940s. He said the work of Academy Award winning costume designer Orry-Kelly, who worked on films such as “Casablanca,” “The Maltese Falcon,” “Some Like It Hot” and “Arsenic and Old Lace,” was one of his greatest inspirations.
Last week was Greene’s first time showing at El Paseo Fashion Week and his first time to Palm Desert.
“I was thrilled to be extended that invitation and I just didn’t want to let anyone down,” he said as the show wound down.
By the looks of excited patrons and the numerous women who stopped on their way out to tell him they loved the collection or had made an appointment for a private fitting, he hadn’t.
Food and Wine Festival
Around the corner from the trunk show, the Palm Desert Food and Wine festival also wrapped up Sunday, with more tastings and cooking demonstrations from Food Network star Aarti Sequeira and almost a dozen local chefs.
The three-day festival was filled with creations from and demonstrations by local and celebrity chefs, a four-course luncheon and, of course, lots of food and wine tastings.Read more at:formal dresses perth
