Tokyo Fashion Week highlights flower patterns, lace, gentle atmosphere

Floral patterns, lace and other pretty elements stood out at Tokyo Fashion Week for spring-summer 2016, reclaiming centre stage from the strong, mannish styles that had been in vogue for a while.

Held Oct. 12-17, the event highlighted new designs from 50 brands in Japan and from overseas.

Keita Maruyama’s eponymous brand presented garments, including coats, with flowery embroidery at its show. Many items were in pastel colours, adding a romantic touch.

Maruyama’s garments also strongly featured the brand’s trademark Oriental flavour, incorporating Japanese patterns and worn in the show by models sporting kanzashi ornamental hairpins.

“I made my collection feminine with materials created in Japan,” the designer said. Maruyama also said much of his inspiration came from Japanese classical literature.

The mintdesigns brand took gardens as its theme, featuring a dress with lines of pink flowers as well as ones with flower-like motifs constituting of layers of striped and checked fabrics. It was the first time in five years for the popular brand to officially participate in Tokyo Fashion Week.

Elegant dresses with large flower prints by Hanae Mori manuscrit added colour to the brand’s show. Designer Yu Amatsu produced the flower motifs by scanning real flowers with a three-dimensional scanner, saying, “I was able to express three-dimensional patterns with depth.”

The garments were a fusion of cutting-edge technology and the graceful colours typical of Hanae Mori.

Christian Dada made great use of lace with flower patterns for its collection. A long lace skirt in turquoise blue had tucks to give it a wide hem and also look light. The skirt was coordinated with a T-shirt with hydrangea motifs to create a gentle mood, a departure from the brand’s usual style.

DRESSCAMP also used lace, presenting a yellow two-piece outfit of a jacket and skirt. The brand’s show lived up to its theme of sweetness, including a pink frill dress and a dress with small flower patterns.

Many of the new works by the beautiful people brand were light and graceful, including long see-through dresses, pleated skirts and wide pants with bottoms that looked like lace.

Aiming to foster young designers, the latest Tokyo Fashion Week included a show highlighting five individual and group designers who founded their brands in the past few years.

The show was titled Tokyo New Age, and contained innovative, fresh looks, including a black suit reminiscent of a martial arts outfit and a skirt of cut-up leather.

The Ryotamurakami brand presented a short jersey jacket with shorter than usual sleeves, coordinated with pants.

Brand designer Ryota Murakami, 27, said, “I based [my works] on clothes that had been stored in drawers at my parents’ home for a long time.” He appeared happy about the audience’s enthusiastic response.

Photographer Recreates Couple's Wedding Day After Their Original Photog Was A No-Show

Bride Heather Koehler was devastated when her photographer failed to show up to her September 12 wedding due to a date mix-up.

But thanks to a generous local photographer, Dana Gruszynski of Dana G Photography, Heather and her now-husband Matt Koehler were able to capture some of the quintessential wedding photos they missed out on.

Dana offered to do a bridal shoot with the couple free of charge after hearing about their fiascofrom one of her cousins who had attended the wedding.

"My heart just broke for her," Dana told The Huffington Post. "Pictures are real-life moments captured to look back on forever and Heather didn't get that."

A week after the wedding, Heather and Dana met for coffee to discuss plans for the shoot. Unbeknownst to the newlyweds, Dana was also planning a big day do-over. She secretly invited close family and friends and recreated the bouquets, decorations and cake with some help from vendors.

Dana used cellphone wedding photos she had found on Heather's Facebook page as her guiding inspiration.

On October 25, it was time to unveil the surprise. Dana asked the bride and groom's family and friends to park on a side street as to not tip off the unsuspecting couple.

"I had the song Heather walked down the aisle to playing [when they arrived]," Dana told HuffPost. "The moment she heard that and saw her family and all the decor, she lost it. I lost it. Their love just radiates."

"We then cut the cake, took formal pictures and just had a great time talking about how her friends, family and I all kept it from them," Dana continued.

"She's amazing," Heather told MLive of Dana. "I still can't believe she went through all of this trouble for me. It's a huge blessing and something I'll remember forever."

Not taking the ring off!

Halle Berry continues to wear her wedding band just days after she announced her split from husband of two years, Olivier Martinez.

The 49-year-old Extant actress flashed her wide gold ring on her left hand as she walked to a meeting with her agent in LA on Friday.

That same day her former French spouse was seen riding his motorcycle on a windy road. Her other ex Gabriel Aubry - who she had daughter Nahla with - was also spotted. The model was at LAX airport.

Halle was dressed casually in a grey tank top and jeans with black fringe sandals.

Her brunette pal had on sneakers and was wore head to toe black.

The day before the X-Men star was more dressed up in heels and a halter top with drop trousers as she headed to a meeting for her charity. She also had the ring on then.

Meanwhile, Martinez looked suited up for a long ride.

The Unfaithful star had on a black and grey varsity jacket with jeans and brown buckled boots.

On his hands were red leather gloves and he had sunglasses on under his black and white checked helmet.

His bike appeared vintage and he was rising in a residential neighborhood.

Harsh allegation: UsWeekly claimed the Oscar-winning beauty is just as explosive as her French ex. 'They both have major tempers and were locking heads constantly,' a source told the site. 'It’s going to be a very bitter divorce'

On Wednesday he was seen with his wedding band off as he drove his vintage BMW in LA.

The former couple have one son together, Maceo, aged two.

Aubry, who has been fighting with Halle over child support payments, looked dressed down at LAX. It is not known if he was leaving the city or arriving.

The Macy's model had on a light grey shirt and jeans with a baseball cap on backwards.

There have been many reports about Halle and Olivier since they announced on Tuesday they were going their separate ways.

UsWeekly claimed the Oscar-winning beauty is just as explosive as her French ex.

'They both have major tempers and were locking heads constantly,' a source told the site. 'It’s going to be a very bitter divorce.'

'It was non-stop fighting towards the end,' an insider said. 'They are two very hot-headed people. Lots of screaming and fighting. It was really bad.'

The source then said, 'They both have major tempers and were locking heads constantly.'

People reported the Bullfighter star's anger led to the couple's frequent separations and eventual split. 'He had an explosive temper in a way that was profoundly frightening,' a source stated.

People alleged the two were having terrible fights. Sources told the site their 'fiery personalities' led to frequent separations.

'Oliver comes from a world where he was easily intimidated by her ability to work and that she was the breadwinner. He was emasculated by her beauty and her power, and his temper could erupt,' said the insider.
